Against the platform limits

Limits are the platforms' published limits. Facebook's figure is its technical maximum — in practice far shorter posts are the norm there. Emoji and some symbols can count differently on some platforms.

How to use the caption & bio length checker

How it works

Start typing and every platform row updates at once: how many characters you have used, how many you have left, and a badge that flips from OK to CLOSE to OVER LIMIT as you approach each ceiling.

The limits used

Instagram bio 150 · X (Twitter) post 280 · Instagram caption 2,200 · TikTok caption 2,200 · LinkedIn post 3,000 · Facebook post 63,206 (a technical maximum; everyday posts are far shorter). These are the platforms' published limits.

Why one draft rarely fits everywhere

A caption written for Instagram's 2,200 characters will never squeeze into an X post. Checking before you schedule saves the copy-paste surprise at posting time.

Example

A 160-character draft shows OVER LIMIT for an Instagram bio (150) with 10 characters to trim, while sitting comfortably inside every caption limit.

Frequently asked questions

What are the current character limits?

Instagram bios allow 150 characters and Instagram captions 2,200. X (Twitter) posts allow 280 for standard accounts. TikTok captions allow 2,200. LinkedIn posts allow 3,000. Facebook's technical maximum is 63,206 characters, which is a ceiling, not a target — normal posts are far shorter.

Why does my emoji count look off?

Some platforms count certain emoji as two characters, and X weights some characters differently. Treat the counter as a close guide and leave a little headroom when you are near a limit.

Does the checker count line breaks?

Yes. Line breaks are characters too, and the platforms count them, so we do as well.

What does "CLOSE" mean?

Your draft is within the limit but has less than 5% (or 10 characters) to spare. One more emoji or a small edit could push it over.

Is my draft uploaded?

No. Counting happens in your browser only.
